Pre-K Administrative Assistant:
Avery County Public Schools offers a quality, five-star pre-kindergarten program in each of its five pre-k through grade five and pre-k through grade six elementary schools. Three and four year olds attend class in their home school district. Classes are balanced with students who have special needs, typically developing children and children who show gifted potential. A lead B-K certified teacher and two assistants provide instruction in a play-based environment following the Creative Curriculum for Preschoolers and the state adopted Early Learning Standards for North Carolina Preschoolers and Strategies for Guiding Their Success that aligns the pre-kindergarten program with kindergarten standards. Each classroom participates in the state sponsored More at Four program. The pre-kindergarten program follows the school schedule and calendar.
Parents/Guardians of children who are 3 years old by October 16th may pick up a pre-kindergarten application from any of the elementary schools or from the Board of Education. Applications can also be downloaded from the link below. Bus transportation is available; children are assigned a older student ‘bus buddy’ for travel.
