Staying Healthy: Measles Information for Families
Your child will be bringing home an information sheet regarding an increase in measles cases in western North Carolina. While there are no reported cases in our immediate area, Avery County Schools wants families to be informed and prepared. The information explains the importance of vaccination, notes that two doses of the MMR vaccine are highly effective, and encourages families to gather immunization or immunity documentation. It also outlines that, during an outbreak, unvaccinated students and staff who are exposed may be required to stay home for up to 21 days. Guidance from the local health department will be provided if an exposure occurs.
