Due to an accident and damage to a light pole, a portion of Banner Elk highway has been closed between Heaton and Banner Elk. This will prevent us from running bus 154 through that area this morning. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Here's the text from the phone call home Thursday evening: Good evening this is Dr J from Cranberry Middle with a few announcements for our CMS family. First, tomorrow, Friday, Aug 29 will be a hat day at CMS. We will having hat days each Friday going forward. Students just need to bring a dollar to wear a hat for the day. The funds we raise will go right back to our students through our clubs program that students are signing up for on Friday. Second, parents, please ask your students to show you their planners the school has provided. This is a great way for us to maintain a steady flow of communication between home and school. Let us know if you have any questions about our planners. Third, we need donations of tear-free baby shampoo for our Wildcat Celebration next Friday, Sep 6. We'll have a Wildcat Waterslide, weather permitting, and we need lots of that shampoo to help with the slide. Finally, a reminder that Monday, Sep 2, Avery County Schools will be closed in observance of Labor Day. Thank you for your support of Cranberry Middle and I hope you have a great evening!

Attention Rising 7th grade families! As we are approaching August and the return to school, please take note of this reminder. Thank you and we look forward to seeing you soon! Students entering 7th grade in August are required to have one dose each of the Tdap vaccine and the meningococcal vaccine. Please contact your child's health care provider or the Avery County Health Department to update vaccines. We do need proof of immunization upon return to school. By law, schools are required to prohibit any student from attending school until proof of immunization is provided to the school. Thank you very much for your help. Here's the content of the phone message sent out this evening: Good evening this is Dr. J from Cranberry Middle. I hope you are enjoying your extended weekend. I have a few reminders for you that I need to share. I'll be brief so I don't take any more of your weekend than necessary. First, remember no school Monday as we observe the Memorial Day Holiday. Second, on Tuesday, we will have our Field Day and Water Slide. Students need to bring a towel and a change of clothes they don't mind getting dirty. We also need tear-free baby shampoo for the water slide. Finally, we need all students to return their iPads, cords and chargers on Tuesday as well as any library books they may have checked out. If you have any questions, please call the school on Tuesday and we'll be glad to help. I hope you enjoy the rest of this long weekend. See you Tuesday.
