Good Evening Riverside families, this is Ms. Baird. I hope that you have had a wonderful week! I wanted to send a quick message before your weekend about Spring Pictures next week. Spring Pictures will be on Thursday, April the 6th. Students will ONLY have their pictures made IF you choose to purchase pictures ahead of time. Flyers were sent home with your child today. You can either purchase pictures by going online to strawbridge.net and typing in our school code which is Capital FM409014 or you can send back the paper order form with your money. This must be sent in prior to pictures being taken on Thursday for your child to receive their Spring Pictures. If you have any questions please feel free to call the front office. Good Evening Riverside families, this is Ms. Baird. I hope that you have had a wonderful start to your week! I wanted to send a quick message with a few reminders about this week! Tomorrow the 28th we will have 4-H club right after school. Also, tomorrow (Tuesday, March 28th) we will be having our Donut pickup right after school until 5:30 tomorrow afternoon. Please do not pull into the bus parking lot until after the yellow school bus has pulled out for the afternoon. You may pull over to the gym to pick up the donuts your child sold after you pick up your child from car riders. If you are able to help sort donuts tomorrow during the school day please call the front office and let Mrs. Sherry or myself know. Thank you for your tremendous efforts on our fundraiser, it was a HUGE success! Also, on a side note for safety purposes please do not pull into the bus parking lot during school hours and/or at dismissal time in the afternoon to pick up your child. This is a restricted area that is intended for staff parking and school buses only. We will be hosting a Lunch with Heroes this Friday, March 31st. If you are in the healthcare field, law enforcement or corrections, or serve in any capacity in emergency response through: dispatch, fire departments, EMS, emergency management, etc… We would like to invite you to eat lunch with our students on the 31st. Please call the school to schedule your lunch. Thank you! PreK Screenings will be on Friday, April 28th at the Avery County Extension Office. Please call the front office for more information. Please don’t forget that tomorrow is the deadline to turn in all doughnut orders and money. Please send cash and order forms tomorrow with your child so that our PTO can place the doughnut order. Donut pickup will be next Tuesday. I will send out more information about this closer to time. Tomorrow the 21st we will have Coding Club after school and on Thursday the 23rd we will have Y.E.S. Club after school. Our Kindergarteners will be going to Splash each day this week. We will be having 20 of our 4th-5th graders representing us at the county wide Amazing Shake competition at Banner Elk Elementary school on Thursday as well. If you have not sent back your permission slip for this please do so by tomorrow. We will be hosting a Lunch with Heroes on March 31st. I wanted to send a quick message with a few reminders about this week! We are having a PTO meeting this evening at 5:30 in the Library. All parents and families are encouraged to attend. This is a time to collaborate on ideas and activities that we would like to focus on here at Riverside. Everyone is welcome to attend. We currently have less than 5 yearbooks left for sale if you have not purchased one and would like to purchase one for your child. The deadline is Friday, March the 10th. The cost is $25. You may send $25 dollars to the school or you may purchase the yearbook online. On Thursday of this week we will be having Class Pictures made. If you would like to purchase a class picture these are pre purchase and the cost is $10. Please send in this money by Thursday if you would like to purchase a class picture. We will not be having Y.E.S. club this Thursday, March 9th. Next Tuesday we will have our first 4-H Homesteader Club meeting next Tuesday after school until 4:00. We are still looking for parents and other volunteers in our community to help. If you would like to help please call the front office and let us know. Next Thursday, March 16th there will be no school for students. It is a required teacher workday. Lastly, we will be selling Seaver’s Donuts for our Spring Fundraiser. You should be receiving an order form tomorrow! If you have not tried these donuts you definitely should. All profits go directly back to our school and our students thanks to our amazing PTO. Avery County Little League will be signing up for the 2022/23 baseball and softball season on Saturday, March 4th and Saturday, March 18th in the lower level of the Avery County Library (these are the final dates for registration). Cost is $60 per player and we serve boys and girls ages 4 to 12. For more information please follow the Avery County Little League Facebook page or call 828 387-5236.

Good Evening Riverside families, this is Ms. Baird. I hope that you had a Monday! I wanted to send a quick message with a few reminders about this week! This week we are celebrating Read Across America for Dr. Seuss’ birthday. Each day we will be dressing up. Tomorrow is “Oh the Places You Will Go” and we encourage students to wear a Riverside shirt or their favorite college t-shirt. On Wednesday, wear crazy socks in honor of Dr. Seuss’ book Fox in Socks. Thursday please dress up like your favorite book character and on Friday feel free to wear your hat just like the Cat in the Hat did. We will have our first 4-H Homesteader Club meeting tomorrow after school until 4:00. We are still looking for parents and other volunteers in our community to help. If you would like to help please call the front office and let us know. We will have a PTO meeting tomorrow evening (Tuesday, February 28th) where our 2nd and 3rd graders will share with families. This evening you should see a permission slip in your child’s folder if they are in the 2nd-5th grade. Please complete this and send back to the school by Wednesday of this week for the performance in the morning at Lees McRae on Friday. Read-A-Thon starts today! This is the easiest fundraiser we will do! Students simply read to raise money for Riverside!!! If you have not signed up for this fundraiser online, please do so and send out emails. A reading log was sent home today. Please send it back to school daily! If you have any questions, please let us know! This week we will have our YES club meeting on Thursday, February 23rd and we will have our first 4-H club meeting on February 28th. Please see the flyer that came home with your child today. Monday, February 27th is an early dismissal day for all students at 12:00 for staff development. We will not have afterschool on this day. Please don’t forget that tomorrow is the last day of our book fair. If you would like for your child to shop at the book fair please send in money with them tomorrow. We will be closing up the book fair after 1:30 tomorrow afternoon. We will have our YES club meeting on Thursday, February 23rd and we will have our first 4-H club meeting on February 28th. Be looking for a flyer later on this week with more information. Monday, February 27th is an early dismissal day for all students at 12:00 for staff development. We will not have afterschool on this day. We will have a PTO meeting on Tuesday, February 28th where our 2nd and 3rd graders will share with families. All parents and families are encouraged to attend. Also, please don’t forget to get your child signed up for our Read-a-Thon from February 20th-March 3rd to raise money for our school. You should have received a Yearbook flier this week. Our yearbook numbers are limited and are sold on a first come basis. Please send in $25 with your child or to the front office if you would like to purchase a yearbook. Our 5th graders are working diligently to get their 5th grade Charleston trip paid for. They are running a 50/50 CASH Raffle through Tuesday of this coming week. We will draw a name on Wednesday, January 25th. If you would like to purchase raffle tickets please reach out to one of our fifth graders or call the front office to purchase. We will have our Battle of the Books Club on Tuesday, January 24th. We will have our YES club meeting on Thursday, January 26th. On Friday, January 27th our 5th graders will be hosting a Winter dance for all students in grades 2nd-5th grade after school. You will receive a flier and permission slip next week. All proceeds will go to our 5th graders Charleston trip. On Monday, January 30th we will have a mandatory meeting for all families who have a 5th grader going on the Charleston trip. We will meet at 5:00 in Mrs. Phoebe’s room. Also on this night at 5:30 our 2nd and 3rd graders will be presenting at our PTO meeting in the library at the school. We would love to see all of our families join us.
