At the Board of Education meeting on November 4th, the Avery County High School Women’s Golf Team was honored for their outstanding accomplishments, highlighted by winning the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) 1A/2A State Team Championship.
This exceptionally talented group, along with their dedicated coach, Mr. Mike Shook, made Avery County athletic history as the first girls’ team to earn a state championship. Congratulations to these remarkable young athletes for their hard work and dedication!

Sydney Kulhan – 2-Time Conference Tournament Champion, 2-Time Conference Regular Season Champion, 2-Time All-Conference, 2024 State Runner-Up, 2025 3rd in the State
Molly Forbes – 3-Time All-Conference, 3-Time State Qualifier, 2025 7th in the State
Kendall Kulhan – 2-Time All-Conference, 2-Time State Qualifier, 2025 13th in the State
Erika Ralston – 2-Time All-Conference, 2-Time State Qualifier, 2025 20th in the State
Karlie Calhoun – 2-Time All-Conference, 1-Time State Qualifier, 2025 24th in the State
