Dear Avery County Schools Families,
We want to make you aware of a recent global cybersecurity breach involving Instructure, the parent company of the Canvas Learning Management System used by Avery County Schools. Our district was included on a list of impacted institutions, along with several other local school districts and universities and the NC Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI).
NCDPI has temporarily disabled access to Canvas for students and staff, statewide, as a precautionary measure. The Cybersecurity Team at NCDPI is working to determine the specific impact on students, staff, and school systems across the state. Avery County Schools takes this matter seriously, and we are working closely with state and technology partners to minimize the impact of the breach in the coming days.
