Avery County Schools will operate on a REGULAR SCHEDULE tomorrow, Friday, January 12th. Buses will not travel on the following gravel roads: Berry Rd, Arnett Rd, Reuben Wooten Rd, Dogwood Knob Rd, Old Beech Mountain Rd, John Greer Rd, Chestnut Dale Rd, and White Pine Rd. There will likely be spots of black ice in the morning where water continues to run across the roadways. Please use extreme caution traveling in the early morning hours.

Due to very dangerous icy conditions this morning and temperatures well below freezing, the Avery County School System will be CLOSED with an OPTIONAL TEACHER WORKDAY today, Wednesday, January 10, 2024. Faculty and staff who can safely travel may report at 12:00NOON to allow contractors access to vacant parking lots and sidewalks during daylight hours.

If conditions worsen overnight, a decision regarding school closure will be made by 6:00am.

Avery County Schools will be on a 2 Hour Delay, Tomorrow, Tuesday, January 9th due to the multiple inclement weather warnings of ice, high wind, and flooding. A 2hr delay allows our buses and student drivers to travel after daylight in order to see possible issues better. Roads will be checked in the morning and a decision made before 630 if necessary.

Good morning Avery County Schools Families, This is an update for tonight's basketball games at ACHS. Due to sickness on the visiting teams, the Boys and Girls JV games will be rescheduled for another date. Both the Varsity Girls and Boys will still play tonight at home. The Varsity Girls Game will start at 6PM and the Boys Game will start after the conclusion of the Girls Game.

Please notice that Thursday will be our Community Market to give away free food supplies at the Old Rock School Gym at 11:30 until the food runs out. This will be our FINAL Community Market. We will be directing those who need food in the future to our partner agency, Feeding Avery Families. We will be needing volunteers to pack boxes for this event. Volunteers can meet at the Old Rock School Gym at 9:45 to start packing boxes for distribution.

Good morning! With temperatures quickly dropping below freezing and currently wet roads throughout the county, there is the likelihood for black ice this morning.
